Think about the last time you paid someone a compliment and their first reaction was – “Oh, this old thing,” or “Oh my goodness, I look so horrible today,” or “I got this 100 years ago at a thrift store.” Why do we struggle so much with accepting people being nice to us?
It actually took some effort for you to say, “You look nice today,” “I love your sweater” or “Your necklace is fabulous,” and then the person receiving these comments responds with “Yuk!” So how did that make you feel? When someone says something nice about your appearance or your talents or your presentation, say “Thank you.” It’s that simple to make someone else feel good, accepted and perhaps even sincerely flattered.
