How many business cards do you carry with you to each Networking event you attend ? We have all witnessed the ‘card passer’ at meetings – OMGosh – what is the purpose of that ??? How many cards you hand out equals how successful you are ???!!!
I recommend to those who are just starting out – OR to those who need a fresh technique, just carry 2 business cards next time – one for the door prize basket and one for the first person you meet; then when someone says, “Do you have a business card?” you may respond with “I just gave my last one away; I would love to have one of yours!”
Few of us are good at follow-up, this fresh technique may be the answer to your Networking success, or lack thereof in some cases. YOU are the one with the business cards in your pocket so YOU are the one responsible to call and make that next appointment for coffee or lunch or whatever 1:1 method you choose.
Do NOT be afraid to ask for that meeting and certainly, that next sale, but always remember, hopefully you are dealing with another professional and they deserve the respect of everyone THEY meet.
