If you are not familiar with edification, this might be a great time to learn about it and practice it. Whether you have a coach, a mentor, some well-respected friend or business partner, you may be able to practice the art of edification with any of these. When someone makes the introductions of members of the Board or the other VIP’s at any event, this is the chance to practice edification. The actual definition is basically the act of uplifting another.
This is NOT the time for idle flattery but a time to give sincere compliments and let those who are listening realize how fabulous this person is; be it the guest speaker, the host, the sponsor for the event, or a business partner or team member who just achieved another milestone. Making someone’s day has always been a goal of mine long before I knew the term “edification,” and now I try to edify someone every day. The response to this act has truly had an amazing ripple effect. Practice, as always, makes perfect.
