We don’t want to think about it…we don’t want to deal with it…but HERE WE ARE !!! When our parents get into their 70’s and beyond, we find ourselves as the TWEENERS – between the ‘raising’ of our own children and the caring for our aging parents.
This reality is hitting ME now, and I find myself as the primary caregiver for my ever deteriorating parent. Arriving in a hospital for a wound that would not heal, and landing in a skilled nursing facility is the last thing I would have been thinking about in July of 2013 but here we are !!!
Regardless of how many plans we make, the reality is: we are ALL getting older. The reality is, we will ALL need help at some point. The great news is, there are patient advocates and many people ‘out there’ to help us as we make these FOREVER decisions. The great news for my parent is, we found a facility where she is comfortable and acclimating nicely. The bad news, if these could be any, is that she may be there for the long term, most likely.
The conversations ahead of time and crucial, albeit IMPOSSIBLE to start, and I recommend them HIGHLY !!! The wills, the trusts, the accounts, the ANSWERS to those have-to-ask questions…these topics must be addressed and the sooner the better…TRUST ME on this one !!!
